GUEST SPEAKING AT THE SARDONYX MUSIC CONFERENCE
Tomorrow, Saturday May 30, is the Sardonyx Music Conference at the Altar Bar in Pittsburgh. Jason has been invited to be a guest speaker on a couple of the panel discussions regarding the "State of the music business" and "Record Labels vs. DIY." This is an honor considering the other panelists include some of the top A&R, promoters, producers, writers, managers & teachers in the business.

It's a rare chance for Pittsburgh's music scene to come together and network on a large scale. If you're a songwriter, musician, or just looking to get into the music industry, you should check this out, as these types of conferences are usually relegated to places like NY, LA, Nashville or Austin. Also there will be several showcase performances from many genres (including our friends, Dofka) after the panels. For info: http://www.sardonyxproductions.com/events.html

METAL HAMMER U.K. HERALDS ICARUS WITCH AS ONE OF THE BEST N.W.O.T.M. BANDS OF THE FUTURE
Metal Hammer UK April 2009

Funny how media-created genre tags have been the norm in this biz for so long. Generally speaking, Icarus Witch has avoided being nailed down too much and we've relished the outsider status as trend-free, stick to your guns traditionalists. However, when one of the largest hard rock magazines in England contacts you to tell you you're now a part of this movement known as NWOTM (or New Wave Of Traditional Metal) well, that's a tag we can wear with pride, knowing that by not bowing to trends, the tastes have finally come around to what we've been doing all along, playing a traditional style of classic, hard rocking old school heavy metal. So we're flattered by the invite to be on the compilation CD {"Nature Of The Beast"] that accompanies this April 2009 edition of Metal Hammer UK as well as the kind words inside. Particularly these passages: "One of the best new bands to take the NWOTM standard and carry it triumphantly into the future is Icarus Witch, a Pittsburgh based group that sound like Ronnie James Dio fronted Sabbath crash-landing a Judas Priest gig!" & "Early Iron Maiden & Dio plummeting to Earth on fire!" What makes it even sweeter is that it's an honor we can share with our brothers in bands like Cauldron, Widow, Twisted Tower Dire, White Wizzard & Wolf (also featured in this month's Incoming section). As British press tends to show up on American magazine racks a month after it's run in the UK, this should be arriving soon in the U.S.. Look for the April issue with Metallica & Machine Head on the cover & support those who support true metal. Cheers~

The band is in pre-production mode at the moment, writing & demoing songs at Ice House Studios in Washington PA with long time friend Jim Dofka. It will be awhile before there is new music for sale, so in the mean time, if you need a copy of Songs For The Lost, you can pick one up cheaply here:

Writing The New Album
As previously mentioned, we're taking a break from shows until October to focus on writing the new music. So far we've got about 7 songs in various stages of creation. It will be awhile before we have samples to play and most likely a full length won't see release until early 2009, but we hope to have several exciting new things for you to enjoy between now and our winter tour. Keep an ear out to myspace.com/icaruswitch as that page gets updated on a daily basis. Witches In The Shadows

HELL BENT FOREVER - A TRIBUTE TO JUDAS PRIEST
Our evil fantasies have come true! We're proud to announce that Icarus Witch have been locked in for the star-studded compilation: HELL BENT FOREVER - A TRIBUTE TO JUDAS PRIEST which will be released September 16th through L.A. based, Deadline Music. In addition to paying homage to the metal gods, with our hot rockin' take on "The Ripper" (a crowd pleasing part of our live set in the past), we're also honored to be on another high profile release along side heavy duty players who are always delivering the goods, like Motörhead, Sepultura and even former Priest / Iced Earth & current Yngwie Malmsteen siren, Tim "Ripper" Owens for what is clearly not your run of the mill tribute. And if you think that's metal enough, you've got another thing coming because our good friend & regional guitar hero, Jim "KK" Dofka is burin' up the frets of his 6 string killing machine as he joins us for a blistering dual guitar duel with our own Quinn "Tipton" Lukas. Check out a sample clip on www.myspace.com/icaruswitch. Rock Hard, Ride Free...

Acoustic Witchcraft
Photobucket Thanks to everyone who braved the torrential downpours & crazy thunderstorms to come enjoy the debut Icarus Witch acoustic performance last night at the Carnegie Music Hall here in Pittsburgh.

It was also the first time we've performed the acoustic ballad, "Smoke & Mirrors" in a live setting, & the first time any of us have played it since the Songs For The Lost sessions!

Following that was a scaled back, though hopefully no less powerful, rendition of "The Sky Is Falling" (appropriate for the evening forecast).

Finally, we unveiled our version of the Fleetwood Mac classic, "Rhiannon" ~ a timeless classic that we're very attached to & one of the songs that lured me into the craft as a young apprentice so many moons ago.

This performance was a one-off favor to Sterling & our lovely belly dancing sisters of Sadiqa as part of their Pittsburgh Underground show. A strange & wonderful night of wine, women & song that took us out of our usual metallic element and blended our mystic rock message into a night of middle eastern snake charming songs (Ishtar rocks), West African Drumming and dancing, jazz, hip hop, folk, opera, classical & even a couple doing a lurid tango to Apocalyptica!

BACK IN THE STUDIO (SOON)

A huge thank you to all of our friends, old & new who came out to our run of shows this winter & spring. We've had a blast playing with some of our favorite bands such as Trouble, Candlemass, Doro, Black Bonzo & more. Whether it's Cleveland, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Raleigh, Wheeling or our beloved Iron City...the true metal underground is alive and well.

We're taking a slightly lighter show schedule for the summer so that we can focus on writing & recording new music. The hope at this point is to release and EP with a few new songs as well as an overdue video in time for a full fall tour. More details as they unfold.

Up The Pens!
